Electronic dog training collars are used to correct unwanted behaviors by remote control. The shock emitted is not harmful to the dog; its effectiveness is founded on surprise rather than pain. Shock collars are employed for training in agility, hunting, anti-barking and police work.
The Dogtra Company is the leader in manufacturing e-collars worldwide; their focus is on taxing instruction conditions where the animal has not been responsive. For this the Dogtra 1900NCP Field Star with its LCD screen is efficacious and solid. On the other hand, it is easy to use and provides completely waterproof transmitters and receivers.

Features and Benefits of The Dogtra 1900NCP Field Star
- A rheostat dial which permits moderate increases in stimulation concentration with no sudden jerks between levels. This dial is located on the top of the transmitter; adjustment is for threshold of stimulation to be applied as the dog’s activity or compliance changes.
- The Dogtra 1900NCP has a field range of one-half mile. This increased range facilitates training in either the hunting situation or in police work emulating actual situational experiences.
- Stimulation types include a nick, a constant reminder and a pager vibration. With the nick button, the receiver sends a single, rapid pulse of electricity. The constant button gives continuous electrical stimulation for up to 12 seconds. The pager sends a non-stimulating vibration, also up to 12 seconds.
- The Dogtra 1900NCP has over 999 identity codes. This diversity of codes filters interference with electronic devices such as garage door openers. Because of these unique codes it is unlikely there will be a frequency match with other e-collars. This is particularly helpful in the hunting environment where several dogs are being controlled.
- In addition to these features, there is a two-dog model which allows control of two different dogs from one transmitter.
- The Ni-MH batteries are rechargeable; there is no outside antenna on the collar.
- An LCD screen exhibits the precise stimulation and provides visibility in dusk or dawn conditions.
- And finally, there is an LED colored device which shows battery levels.
Possible Disadvantages of The Dogtra 1900NCP
Probably the only major detractor for any of Dogtra’s products is cost. There are a number of other products on the market which are cheaper; the question then remains whether they provide the upgraded features.
The answer to this has to be that they do not. Also, most manufacturers competing with Dogtra have not been in this market nearly as long; therefore, they do not provide the experience levels or the product back-up.
For Which Type of Dogs Is This Collar Intended?
The Dogtra 1900NCP is intended for dogs whose necks are less than 28”. In other words, use this collar for most medium to large police dogs (German Shepherds and smaller) and for sporting dogs such as pointers, setters, spaniels and Labradors.

What other owners have to say about the Dogtra 1900NCP Field Star:
I try to keep it brief but there are so much good things to say about the Dogtra 1900NCP. My 15 month old German Shepherd has a high energy level and can be stubborn. After reading the reviews, I took the step and bought this collar which seemed overpriced. Nothing is further from the truth. After using it once, the behavior changed directly. This training collar is a tough and durable unit, yet comfortable for the dog. This is just a fantastic product!

Dogs can move from obedience challenged to well-behaved for owners who use the Dogtra 1900NCP judiciously. To be able to have control at the one-half mile distance and less is very useful in the training environment, allowing the trainer to be proactive rather than punitive.
No check cords are required when using the electronic collar, promoting freedom of movement not previously available. When correction is delivered with a light electrical impulse, the dog can then make a choice to obey: what a concept!
